| There are many ways of playing with color on crystal vases and glass vessels. One such technique is done by fusing together two or more layers of glass, each layer of a different color. What the glass craftsman does is to blow a gather to create the outer layer and wrap it around a metal mold. Another layer is then blown into it. Afterwards, the mold is taken from the piece, and the piece is allowed to be heated once more so the layers would fuse together. The outer layer is usually thicker than the inner layers. And then, what the glass craftsman does is to etch or cut away at the outer layer of glass in order to reveal the colors of the inner layers. How the intricacies of color and pattern will be revealed depends on the design the glass artist has in mind. |
